We moved up to Chesterfield to be nearer our grandchildren in 2015 and I retired in 2017. I immediately volunteered to help at the Credit Union as I still wanted to have some involvement in the financial world, and felt I could contribute to the great work the Credit Union does. I became a Director in 2019 and now help on the credit committee.
I started my working life in 1964 spending most of it in the Printing Industry. I was able to start my own printing business in 1977 and then ran this company up to retirement in 2008. The company grew from myself and one other employee to employing 30 people at its peak. I did every job at first but in the later years concentrated on sales, marketing and financial management.
My involvement with Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire Credit Union began in 2015 when I volunteered as a Loan Officer working one day per week. This was a completely new area of work to me and I enjoyed learning how the Credit Union worked and meeting its members until the office closed upon the start of the first lockdown.
I joined the board of directors in 2019 and I am pleased to continue serving our Credit Union in this capacity.

Beginning as an office junior and working my way through different roles and firms, firstly as administrator later onto face to face sales and then to new business and client servicing. Having looked after personal policyholders and commercial clients of all types and sizes there is hardly a class of insurance or challenge I haven’t faced after over more than 40 years.
I worked for my last firm for more than 26 years. Beginning as an Account Executive, becoming Company Secretary and eventually becoming a Director and shareholder for the last 20 years. As Operations and Compliance Director I looked after every aspect of the day to day running of the firm and latterly was responsible for the compliant operation of the business in the post regulation environment under the auspices of the FCA.
Invited to join the Board of the CNEDCU in 2019, as a local boy I was delighted to be able to offer my time and hopefully add to the skills and experience of the Board for the benefit of the members and wider community.
