FAQs

I don’t receive child benefit, but I receive PIP, Universal Credit, Carer's Allowance etc. Can I still apply?

Yes, you can. However, you will need to save regularly for a minimum of 8 weeks before you can apply for a loan. After 8 weeks, you can apply for 3 times the amount you have saved or £500 on top, whichever figure is lower. For example, if you have saved £500, you can apply for £1000. If you have saved £100, you can apply for £300.

Not necessarily. However, you will need to have access to a bank account (for example a friend’s or relative’s that you trust) to withdraw money from your credit union account as we do not pay out cash.

How do I pay back money I have borrowed? How quickly do I have to pay my loan back?

A lot of people pay their loans back by setting up standing orders. Or if you have a family loan with us, you can set up your child benefit to come directly to us each week or every four week. The loan repayments can be paid weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Payments can be made from 6 months up to 3 years depending on the loan amount and your budget.
